Joanne Haldane
She/Her
Clinical and Forensic Psychologist
Master of Clinical Psychology, Charles Sturt
Master of Forensic Psychology, UNSW
Jo works with a broad range of presentations, from everyday stress, anxiety, and relationship or family challenges, through to more complex trauma, PTSD, and nervous system dysregulation. Her clinical scope comes from over a decade working across some of the most demanding corners of mental health: maximum secure psychiatric hospitals, forensic and corrections settings, and specialist trauma services supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and survivors of torture, genocide, and human trafficking. That breadth of clinical experience gives her a grounded, steady understanding of how difficulty shows up — in the mind, the body, and everyday life — and how genuine change happens. With a strong sense of social justice, Jo enjoys working with adolescent and adult clients from all walks of life as they navigate life transitions, change and recovery.
Clients working with Jo can expect a therapeutic space built on genuine warmth, unconditional positive regard, and a strong belief in their capacity to heal. She brings a brain-body lens to every session, blending evidence-based talk therapies with brain and nervous-system-focused approaches so that change isn’t just intellectual, but felt and lasting. Jo moves at the client’s pace, balancing clinical rigour with a relaxed, human presence — sessions feel collaborative rather than clinical, with plenty of room for curiosity, humour, and honesty.
Outside the therapy room, Jo is a black belt in martial arts. This has been a surprise given that she was allergic to sports her whole life. She’s also owned by Frida Kahlo, her much-loved Pugalier. Jo loves nothing better than to snuggle with Frida with a good coffee in hand.
