How does CBT work?

CBT takes a collaborative approach, meaning you and your therapist will work together as a team. Here are the 5 key steps you'll be taken through in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

  1. Psychoeducation
Learn about CBT, how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact, and how negative patterns can contribute to emotional distress.

  2. Cognitive Restructuring
Identify and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns that are fueling your symptoms. This may involve examining the evidence for your thoughts and developing more balanced and realistic perspectives.

  3. Behavioral Activation
Develop and implement alternative behaviors that promote positive emotions and help you achieve your goals.

  4. Exposure Therapy (if applicable)
or anxiety disorders and phobias, gradual exposure to feared situations can help reduce anxiety and build confidence.

  5. Relapse Prevention
Develop strategies to maintain your progress and identify early signs of potential relapse, allowing you to proactively manage challenges.

Through this structured approach, you'll be equipped with a toolbox of valuable skills to manage your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors throughout your life, promoting lasting well-being.
